What is Pride
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." 6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. “ (1 Peter 5:5-7)
What is pride? –– we all heard about “lie detector” what about “Pride detector”?
C.S Lewis, in his book, "Mere Christianity" proposed a pride test - “the more we have it ourselves, the more we dislike it in others.”
Jack Deere, in his book “Surprised by the Voice of God” said “Even with this test, I have come to despair of detecting pride in my own life. I think it is probable that pride can never be detected, only revealed.”
PRIDE is manifested in ....
1. A Superior Attitude – both a desire and an attitude –above all, a desire for self exaltation. it leads to an "unholy competition. Everyone, even God is our rival because God is interested in exalting no one but His Son.
2. A Desire to Dominate - obsessive competitiveness - eg sulking after one lost a game- wanted to challenge again and again.
3. Blind Hatred - C.S Lewis – “A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you”

Pride is what mankind hides behind to further himself through the harshness of society. Pride, however, is also the image which is portrayed through our actions. What we want people to think? Saving 'our face'? It is no doubt at one time or another everyone has experienced pride, some more than others. A dose of pride once in a while is not wrong, instead it helps with confidence to live life strong. In contrast, there are those who live off pride and seek to feed it everyday. A great topic.
